Geneseo Communications, Inc. in cooperation with
the Foundation for Rural Education and Development
(FRED) provided the financial resources to purchase
75 new banners for downtown Geneseo and the
expanding retail and tourism corridor. Tourism is a
huge industry for hometown communities and is the
groundwork that leads families here to make
Geneseo their home. Geneseo Communications is
proud to be a key part of making Geneseo an attractive
place to visit and live by providing advanced

FREE Week in Washington for Students! |
|
|
|
FRED and the National Exchange Carrier Association
(NECA) are providing an opportunity for students from
rural communities to travel to Washington D.C., for a
week long program to learn more about the
government, civic affairs, and telecommunications
regulations. This year, the program runs from March
9-15, 2008 and partners with
Presidential Classroom. Students will have the
chance to tour historic landmarks, attend seminars,
and meet members of Congress, journalists and
other Washington insiders. The program is open to
high school juniors and seniors who live or attend a
high school in an area that is served by a nominating
OPASTCO Telephone Company Member. Brochures
with the applications and additional information are
available online at
FRED's Leadership Through Learning. Hard
copies of the brochures were mailed out to members
in October. PLUS...Students may now
register on-line.

New for 2008 Students will use the
Washington, D.C. architecture as a metaphor for
democracy. The city is home to some of the world's
greatest art and most important buildings of the
modern age. Universally recognized symbols of our
system of government -- executive, legislative, judicial
buildings as well as the White House, Capitol, and
Supreme Court, will come alive for students during a
week of fascination and fun. Students will learn and
understand how the very design of the federal city is a
physical testimony to our culture.
This year's Leadership Through Learning
Program application deadline is December 11, 2007.
Applications are Available on the Web...
