FRED Raises $15,000+ from Taxes Campaign!

Thanks to the many generous members of OPASTCO, FRED has raised $15,831 from its spring fundraising campaign. "FRED Taxes" poke a little fun at tax season and at the same time help to raise awareness and funds for programs in rural communities. We thank those companies that participated and look forward to increasing our support for OPASTCO communities in 2009.

Spring clean up needed in your town?
    FRED can help!

Spring is the perfect time to start clean up projects and identify those areas of your town that can use a face lift. The Ethyl Grant program provides matching grants to OPASTCO member telephone companies that are involved with projects aimed at bettering their communities. Projects that will be considered include sprucing up downtown, eliminating an eyesore, constructing a playground, updating a community center and more. The grants range from $500 - $2,500. An estimated $10,000 in funding is available in 2008. Applications are being accepted year-round and reviewed every few months. Don't miss this opportunity to make a difference in your town!

Special thanks goes out to Bennet & Bennet, PLLC and Nortel Networks for sponsoring this program.

FRED Awards $72,500 in Scholarships to 61 Students!

Each year, FRED awards scholarships to rural America's best and brightest students. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000 and are funded by the donations made to FRED through such programs as the Annual Giving Campaign. The Everette Kneece Return to Rural America Scholarship honors Mr. Kneece's vital and pioneering efforts on behalf of FRED and is awarded in the amount of $5,000 to the year's top applicant. In 2008, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the OPASTCO membership throughout the year, a total of $72,500 was awarded to 61 scholarship recipients.
